Capcom’s latest installment in Archives line reanimates GameCube prequel to the original survival horror hit. This holiday, Capcom is hoping gamers will find time to check out something from the archives–specifically, the Resident Evil Archives. The publisher today announced that the latest installment in the line of Wii rereleases for the survival horror series, Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil Zero, will launch in North America on December 1. Billy and Rebecca, ready to kill some dudes who are already dead. Originally released on the GameCube in 2002, Resident Evil Zero was the last major installment in the series to use the original control scheme before Resident Evil 4 gave the franchise an action-oriented overhaul. MTV Games’ Fab Four tribute shifts 595,000 units in opening month, nearly 100,000 more than Activision’s flagship contender; Abbey Road DLC out this week. In mid-September, the newly installed president and CEO of Activision’s Guitar Hero division Dan Rosensweig claimed that Guitar Hero 5 preorders were building up a seemingly insurmountable lead on its major competitor, MTV Games and Harmonix’s The Beatles: Rock Band. However, the tide apparently didn’t take long to turn. The Beatles apparently got a little help from their friends. As part of the NPD Group’s US retail sales report today , MTV Games announced that The Beatles: Rock Band had outsold Guitar Hero 5 during September. According to figures provided by to GameSpot, The Beatles: Rock Band sold 595,000 units across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii on September 9. World’s top publisher turns small profit on $703 million in sales; $4.05 billion 2009 outlook maintained despite concerns about holiday consumer spending. Over the past two weeks, Sony , Microsoft , Nintendo , Konami , Capcom , THQ , Ubisoft , Namco, and Square Enix all released their most recent earnings reports. Today, it was Activision Blizzard’s turn. Guitar Hero 5 brought in cash, in more way than one. The world’s biggest-third party publisher reported $703 million in net revenue for the July-September quarter, up from $680 million during the same period the year prior. More importantly, the company posted a quarterly profit of $15 million, way up from the $108 million the company lost in Q3 2008. The quarter also saw Activision Blizzard’s overall game software market share grow to 13.3 percent in the US. It’s that time of year again, folks. Penny Arcade has announced the official start of the 2009 Child’s Play charity drive, where throughout the holiday season gamers (or anyone, really) can make gift or money donations to children’s hospitals around the world. As before, participating in the charity drive is made excruciatingly simple: Just click on over to the official Child’s Play website , choose one of the participating children’s hospitals from the map, and you’ll be taken to that hospital’s Amazon wish list where you can purchase one of the many listed items for donation. If you’d rather donate money directly, you can do so through PayPal here .
